SGEN TRIBUTES!

Started in 2011, the Mr. and Ms. Teen SGEN Pageant has come back to bear witness to the talents and beauties of the students of the SGEN schools.

The said contest is an initiative of the SGEN Top Management to strengthen the unity among its schools, as well as to promote the 5Cs namely, Competence, Collaboration, Commitment to Achieve, Character, and Creativity.

This year, a total of 10 pairs of young hopefuls from the four schools participated: four pairs from Southville International School and Colleges, and two pairs each from South Mansfield College, Stonyhurst Southville International School – Batangas Campus, and Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat Campus.

The first part of the event was the talent competition, where the contestants exhibited their flair for singing, dancing and acting.

The evening was illuminated as the contestants appeared in their breath-taking national costumes and ravishing night gowns and formal attire. Shortly afterwards, the top 5 male and female contestants were chosen - and they all faced the much-anticipated Q & A portion...

"The pageant was exciting. I found new friends and, I learned a whole lot of new things. The experiences were amazing! I am just happy that my school, SSIS Malarayat Campus, is proud," Bella Fragman, one of the contestants said.

Having witnessed the event in its second run, Ms. Jeanne Marie Lago, Upper School Department Coordinator of SSIS Malarayat, commented: "This
Mr. and Ms. Teen SGEN 2012
year's pageant got more intense as the participants showed competitiveness in each part of the contest. This only showed that they really prepared making their schools proud."

True enough, the SGEN pageant is not only about the quest for the best faces and talents, but also a pursuit of holistic development among its students.

In fact, Ms. Alea Ann Macam, one of the faculty members who also attended the event said and recognized that "the pageant made the students realized how the 5 C's can really help them achieve. It is through venues like this that the students get to have a real life experience of dreaming, surviving challenges and winning  despite the odds. While bagging most of the awards may be what we were known for, those better individuals after the pageant are still the greatest prize the school receive."

Our very own, Shaira Catadman reigned as
Ms. Teen SGEN 2012.
At the end of the evening, Stonyhurst Southville International School - Malarayat Campus shone the brightest, as its representatives bagged eight (8) awards - Ms. Congeniality (Bella Fragman), Mr. Photogenic (Edison Reyes), Best in National Costume (Edison Reyes and Shaira Catadman), Top 5 Finalists (Kyle Hernandez, Edison Reyes, and Shaira Catadman), Mr. Teen SGEN 2nd Runner Up (Edison Reyes), and the most coveted Ms. Teen SGEN 2012 (Shaira Catadman)!

In one of the interviews, Shaira said, "all my life, I was insecure about myself - thinking that I wasn't good enough and that I had no chance of winning  this competition, but i was wrong. Whether I'm Ms. Teen SGEN 2012 or not, the pageant has helped me to realize, that I am worth something and that I'm beautiful in my own way...I learnt to be patient, to speak up, adjust to people's need and most especially, to believe and trust myself... At that very moment, I prayed to God to thank him for everything..."
